What this covers
A bereavement clearance isn't always the same as a probate clearance. Sometimes it's a surviving partner needing help clearing a shared home, or a family dealing with a parent's belongings after they've moved into care and later passed away. The property may not be going through probate at all.
Whatever the circumstances, the approach is the same: go through the property carefully, set aside anything that matters to the family, and clear the rest without rushing anyone through it.
Taking the time it needs
Some families want to go through everything themselves first and just need the clearance once that's done. Others would rather we sort through it and set aside anything that looks like it might matter — photographs, letters, jewellery — for them to look at afterwards. Either way works, and we'll agree beforehand what you'd like us to do.

Do I need to be there on the day?
No, not if you'd rather not be. Many families prefer not to be present, and we're happy to work from a set of instructions about what to keep aside.
Is this different from a probate clearance?
Sometimes. A probate clearance specifically involves an estate going through probate. A bereavement clearance can be that, or it can be a more general clearance following a death where probate isn't involved. If you're not sure which applies to you, just call and we'll talk it through.
Can you help if the property is rented and needs to go back to a landlord?
Yes — this is a common situation and we're used to working to a landlord's or letting agent's deadline where possible.
What happens to things you don't keep aside?
Usable furniture and household items are sorted for reuse or donation where possible; the rest is cleared and disposed of appropriately.
